Special attention should be paid to the splined connection between the output shaft of MT82 and the LT230 transfer case. Wear of this assembly can cause transmission play and, with significant wear of the splines, loss of torque transmission. Standard parts and reinforced output shaft kits are available for repair and modernization.

The Defender Puma uses a 6-speed manual MT82 gearbox.
