RTC3397 - Transfer Box Pinion Cross Shaft (Comes as a Pair) for LT230 - Defender, Discovery 1 & 2 and Range Rover Classic (Part Number: RTC3397)

Set of satellite shafts of the inter-axle differential (Transfer Box Differential Pinion Cross Shafts / Cross Pinions) for LT230 transfer cases Land Rover.

These shafts are supplied as a pair (two cross shafts). They are installed inside the central differential (previously mentioned under the part number FTC5207). The spider gears rotate on these shafts, allowing the front and rear output shafts to rotate at different speeds.

Why do they wear out?Under prolonged high loads, spinning without engagement of the locking mechanism, or oil starvation, the satellites begin to "bite" these shafts. Deep grooves appear on them, causing the differential to have excessive play, resulting in impacts in the transmission (especially noticeable when releasing or pressing the gas pedal - the so-called transmission clunk).
