ANR2157 - Power Steering Pump for 300TDI - Defender, Discovery and Range Rover (Part Number: ANR2157)
ANR2157 - Power Steering Pump for 300TDI - Defender, Discovery and Range Rover
The ANR2157 power steering pump is specifically designed for the legendary British off-road vehicles with a 2.5L 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine (engine model: 300Tdi), including the Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover models.
The pump is mounted on the engine and is activated by the auxiliary drive belt of the accessories. It creates a stable hydraulic pressure in the system, making it easier and smoother for the driver to turn the steering wheel (especially at low speeds or during parking).
Specifications:
- Part number: ANR2157
- Suitable for the 300TDI engine
- Kit: Supplied as an assembled unit, but usually does not include the pulley. If you also need the pulley, it is purchased separately under a different part number ERR3733
Compatibility:
The ANR2157 is compatible with the following Land Rover models:
- Land Rover Defender (with the 300Tdi engine)
- Land Rover Discovery I (with the 300Tdi engine)
- Range Rover Classic (models from 1992–1994)
Common signs of pump malfunction:
If your power steering pump is worn out or fails, you may notice the following issues:
- The steering wheel becomes significantly harder to turn or jerky.
- You hear a characteristic hum, hiss, or whine under the hood when turning the steering wheel.
- Leakage or rapid drop in the hydraulic fluid level in the power steering system's expansion tank.
Attention !!
Power steering pumps are manufactured with different rotation directions: direct and reverse
In the context of automotive parts and hydraulics, "direct and reverse rotation" refer to the direction of rotation of the pump shaft (clockwise or counterclockwise), and each automotive engine may have a unique accessory drive architecture.
For the Land Rover 300Tdi engine model (where the ANR2157 pump is installed), due to the belt routing specifics, the pump shaft should rotate counterclockwise. If a "direct" rotation pump is installed there, it will operate in reverse.
What happens if the pump is run in reverse?
If a part with the wrong rotation direction is accidentally selected, the system will not work:
- Instead of creating pressure, the pump will start sucking air from the discharge line and pushing the fluid back into the expansion tank (it will bubble and spill out from the top).
- The power steering assistance will completely disappear (the steering wheel will become "hard"). Due to the lack of proper circulation and lubrication, internal components will wear out and seize in a matter of minutes.
Therefore, when selecting replacement parts, it is critically important to check the arrow markings on the housing or the technical parameter: Right (clockwise) or Left (counterclockwise).
If you are choosing a replacement for your vehicle, provide the make, model, and year of your car, and we will help you verify which rotation type is compatible with your engine.
